We learned early on in Breckenridge that the best happy hours are at the local watering holes. The problem is that these places are usually the ones with the absolute worst service. And to add to that, on more than one occasion, we experienced the “it’s like how you see in the movies” scenario: new folks walk in, place goes silent, regulars at the bar all turn and look in unison. No thanks.
We happened upon one happy hour where the price was good, the food was even better, and the drinks were the best we found on the mountain. Blue River Bistro on Main Street is an upscale establishment (well, upscale for Breck) that welcomes any and all for the perfect après-ski scene. Two for one appetizers and cocktails. This is where my liking of the extra dirty martini was born. And the jalapeño fried ravioli, calamari and Kobe beef sliders glazed with a sweet teriyaki sauce weren’t so bad either.
