Mani’s and Metallics

So I was forced to resort to “beauty ritual plan B” when faced with a last-minute trip to Las Vegas recently. We had a trip scheduled later in the month to visit Sin City, but an extreme need to escape the Colorado cold led to a surprise weekend getaway to the desert. I packed my bags pronto with my short dresses that, not surprisingly would fly only in Vegas as appropriate attire, and open-toed shoes, a.k.a the window to my un-manicured, winter-stricken, ski-boot-ridden toes. (I’ll spare you the gory details).

With such short notice, I knew I couldn’t find time to squeeze in a mani-pedi before the trip. Instead, I made a mad dash to the store to find the perfect nail polish that would pass for a visit to a professional. After rummaging through the millions of colors, I met my match: metallic silver. A daring, yet subtle shade that complimented my bright and shiny wardrobe for the weekend. My quick DIY mani-pedi looked as if it could walk down the red carpet at the Oscars. Ok, maybe the VMAs.

As we transition from winter to spring (during a period which seems to be the most confusing and peculiar time of fashion), it’s difficult to pick a shade (or fabric or shoe) that fits the indecisive weather patterns. “Is it still sweater weather when it’s 65 degrees in February in the South?” as I was recently asked by my friend Rebecca who was, like many of us are, in dire need of wardrobe direction to fit this time of year. I found the light metallic to be the ideal shade to welcome in spring and all the soft, romantic hues that accompany it. Mission accomplished.

My pick: OPI Birthday Babe
